Ford helps drivers get to grips with Winter

Winter tyres have not been a product that has been in great demand in this country, but in recent years we have experienced longer periods of cold and icy weather which have made them a necessity for those who want to keep safe on the roads this Winter.

Regular tyres are fitted as standard to all Ford cars and are ideal for most of the year. When temperatures fall below 7°C though the molecules in the tread rubber of regular tyres starts to freeze and harden as temperatures fall further, which can raise the risk of aquaplaning and increase stopping distances.

Winter tyres use a higher proportion of natural rubber in the tread which minimises the hardening effect at lower temperatures, giving improved traction and performance at temperatures below 7°C.
